It was a reconnection which required being in the midst of it and experiencing it to fully realize how much I'd been needing it. I had a wonderful time seeing everyone.
If I had borne my testimony friday night I would have expressed my gratitude at having the family I do - both immediate and extended. Considering the world in which we live, the knowledge that one has family out there - despite being far away in some cases, or not seen too often - means so much.
Anyway, the top of the two photos above was taken at the Stan & Joanne Taylor household in Dallas, Texas about thirty years ago. The one beneath it was taken at the Mark & Anne Marie Eisele household in Lindon, Utah about three days ago.

May the following and many other photos be re-enacted in the reunions to come (hopefully sooner than fifteen years).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5rQpa8-EfF8/Rq1Qyzh8neI/AAAAAAAAACg/dxafLuZ7Qok/s400/100_5081.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5092815587382173154" />

Where is everybody?

Here's where we are!

Just a little map I put together to give everyone an idea of where the various Corbett families are located in the U.S. and Canada.

Click on the image to enlarge.

One giant step for the committee. By the way, who ARE these kids?

Links to other family Blogs

Corbett Family News
So I was able to add the links, but they show up in a weird spot. We, of course, think he is as cute as a button. He is turning into a fun little person and it is so fun to watch. He is very active and loves to climb the stairs, climb into the dishwasher or pull the dishes out when I am trying to fill it and in general get into anything available. He has his first big scrap on his forehead, due to him "discovering" his sisters drawer was pulled out and he decided to finish the process. He fortunatly was/is clueless to what his head looks like and hardly cried at all. We just had a lot of explaining to do at Sacrament meeting. At least it happend AFTER his photo was taken. :-)

Last week Erin added a new word to her vocabulary. The word is Blog! The first time she used it I asked her what it meant and she said "it means I don't know what to say, so I say Blog". Since then she has used it several times. Just goes to show she listens to every word I say.

Hope everyone is having a great Fourth of July! We are enjoying spending time together at home and I am working on finishing my scrapbook from when we went to Utah in 2003. Figured if we are going to go again next year I should at least try to get the scrapbook finished from the last time we went.

How 'bout Canada... just a thought

Hi Everyone,

We had our first conference call last night about the 2007 reunion. There were some various opinions about location and some interest in being in the mountains. Well we Canadians are surrounded by some pretty amazing mountains so we thought we would throw out the idea of Calgary as a meeting place. We know this would mean a lot of travel for most family members and so it might now even be feasable, but we just thought it couldn't hurt to offer it. We have some great locations and activities such as: The Calgary Stampede, Banff, Lake Louise, Waterton, water skiing, beautiful hikes and horse back rides, white water rafting, golf, fishing, and pretty much any other mountainous outdoor activity you can think of. We could either station ourselves in Calgary and do day trips, using our houses and a nearby hotel for accomodations or we can easily find a location out in the mountains for all to stay. We have done this with the Melchin extended family and it worked out great. We even saw a black bear, many deer and a moose on a on a horse back ride we did. If this is going to be your family vacation for the year Canada might be a bit of an adventure. Anyway, it's just a thought. The Melchin clan will go wherever, we just want to get together.

Happy Father's Day, Bear Huntin' Buddy

"Oh, Mister Mister Johnny Rebek
how could you be so mean?
I told you you'd be sorry for inventing that machine.
Now all the neighbor's cats and dogs will
nevermore be seen -
They'll all be ground to sausages in
Johnny Rebek's machine."

That was the chorus from just one of the songs my dad would often sing while driving, camping, or whenever.
There were a few others - I don't really know if these are the titles or just the first lines:

"The Bear Went Over the Mountain"
"The Dummy Line"
"Two Little Fishes" (who "swam and swam all over the dam")
"Beautiful, Beautiful Texas"
"Abilene, Oh Abilene"
"We're All Goin' Down to Santa Fe Town"
"I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts"
And, believe it or not, more than once I remember him singing "We're Off to See the Wizard"

My Dad and I had many categories of buddyship:

Bear-Huntin' Buddy
Priesthood Buddy
Swimming Buddy
Camping Buddy
et al

"Bear-Hunting Buddy" was more of a fanciful yarn he often spun than a label for an activity in which we often engaged. It was quite an entertaining tale. The plan as he described it was to get ourselves outfitted and go up into "the mountains" with some "friendly Indians" as guides. I remember being highly excited, fascinated, and maybe a little frightened at the thought of traveling with Indians, friendly though they be. I kept thinking of those mesmerising, stoic portaits of Geronimo. We never did go bear hunting, or so I thought. Dad later pointed out that we had actually hunted bear on the previous outing to Malouf Lake. Yes, we had been, in fact, walking the shores and hills with our 22s. We just hadn't actually seen or killed a bear. I'd have to say that that was when I first learned about loopholes.

Dad and Humor:

Ask me sometime about Ernie Dawson's "trick knee," or Mom about "Binckley."
Dad would often rib me about the Star Wars movies and characters.
"What's that Star Wars movie called - The Lost Ark Fights Back?"
He used to teasingly call R2-D2 "WD40," and referred to Yoda as "Yuck."
Another thing he used to tell me was that on the old Batman tv series, the character of Robin was played by a girl.
"No he's NOOOOOOT!" was my counter-argument. I didn't have a problem with girl tv characters - I found Batgirl to be quite fetching. Messing with Robin was more than I could handle, though.

Sometime in the 80's I began to wonder how long my Dad would be around. It was several years later, however, before I'd be confronted directly with the concept of Dad's mortality. It was when we went to meet Mom and Dad at the airport upon their homecoming from Panama. Dad was not doing well.
His moment of passing was as peaceful as could be. The thing which I had wondered and worried about back in the 80's had come and gone. But, the really hard thing had been seeing him in the state he was in at the airport back in '97, and the feeling that he had at that moment begun to leave us.

Dad and Mom spent his last few years shuttling back and forth between Texas and AZ.
During their visits here, despite failing health and being unable to partake of many of the simple pleasures which he had once enjoyed, there were times when the old self would re-surface. I remember one day He and Mom and I drove over to Trader Joe's - a market in Tempe which has lots of interesting, unusual foods. We each made one or two selections and then on the way home we enjoyed ourselves sampling them and commenting on them.
Summer of '2001 Mom, Dad and I went to the Cedar City Shakespeare festival. We saw several productions including one of Dad's favorites - "Pirates of Penzance." Dad laughed and cheered at General Stanley, The Pirate King, and a surprise cameo by Queen Victoria herself. On another AZ visit we (again Mom, Dad and I) went to the movies and saw "O' Brother, Where Art Thou." Dad really got a kick out of it. He was particularly tickled by the character "Delmar," and chuckled all the way home.

Whenever I think of Dad in the Spirit World - I envision him with Mama & Daddy T, Bessie & Art, Jessie & Gack, Sadie & Odie, Bud, Babe, Granny & Gramps, Eblen Malouf, Ted, and every dog he ever knew.

Nauvoo - The Evidence

Nauvoo is Still Standing After Goodwin Visit!

Here are the pictures I said I'd post a while back. I wasn't expecting her to really sing even though she had been singing "Mother I love you, Mother I do" all week (and bringing tears to my eyes), however when she got up there she did sing a little. I could tell she knew part of the words and would sing the ones she knew. It really brought tears to my eyes. I can't believe she is old enough to be a Sunbeam, where does time go? Anyway it was nice to see that and then we got an invitation from Primary to go have "Muffins with Mom" the last 10 minutes of 3rd hour. Which was fun (even though I picked a struesel muffin and Erin wanted a chocolate chocolate chip muffin - she has her Dad's tastes in food).

In our ward they handed out a booklet called "All the Time You Need" by Mary Ellen Edmunds which I thought was really an appropriate thing for a mom. I was especially grateful for the thought as I have been feeling I am not making the best use of my time lately. So after reading the book I have decided to take a close look at things and see what and where I need to re-prioritize so things go smoother. I think sometimes I get so caught up in getting everything done I forget to make sure the most important things get done. There is a quote from President Ezra Taft Benson in the booklet that says "when we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives. Our love of the Lord will govern the ... demands on our time, the interests we pursue, and the order of our priorities." So the author says "First things first, and everything else falls into place." So I am going to make that my motto and try to see where I need to improve.

One more thought...we had the opportunity to see Andy graduate on Friday which I know is a great relief to him (and Amy) that he is finally done. I remember the feeling so well and we wish them the best as they go forward with "life after school".

Leah

Happy Mother's Day to all!

I hope everyone is having a happy Mother's day! They passed out chocolate in Sacrament meeting, so I am happy!

First-- belated congratulations to Jane, Paul, and family! We wish we could've been there. Last Sunday Mark E. was ordained a deacon. Mom and Dad came up here for that, and that's why they weren't in Dallas.

Mark E. did a great job on his first week passing the sacrament. The first person he passed it to was his dad, and that was a really nice experience.

We completely failed to eat banana splits on Granny's birthday. I have tried to compensate by eating a lot of ice cream this week. I also decided to treat my kids to a batch of Scotcheroos. I mixed everything together, pressed it into the pan, handed out a couple of un-frosted pieces to my kids and neighbor kids, then poured on the chocolate. I set the pan on the counter. 15 minutes later a neighbor kid came over, stood on his tip-toes, put his little face over the pan, and started coughing. I had to toss the entire thing into the trash. Bummer!

Mark and Co. have been trying to inventory the entire warehouse. We haven't seen much of him at all during the past week. He went to work at 5:00 a.m. yesterday (Saturday) and came home at 4:30 a.m. today. He slept for about 3 hours and then successfully made it through Sacrament meeting up on the stand without falling asleep! I am hoping that he is asleep right now.

I may try to figure out how to put a picture on here! If I am successful, it is a picture of my kids at Disney World in October. They are (l-r): Matthew, Nathan, Drew, and Mark.

--Anne Marie

Pioneer Days

Our ward reenacted the meeting where the Relief Society was first created. for my parents for Christmas just recently. It's one that starts from each of them as babies, right up until the birth of their most recent grandchild, Hannah. They really enjoyed it so I thought I would post it so that if you wanted to take a look you could. It's about 20 minutes long so give yourself some time. Enjoy. This pretty much sums up the Melchin Clan.

The Andy's

My family

After reading the past few postings I thought it would be a good idea to give some insite into my little family.

Amy and I have been married (going on) 5 years this September. We have two cute little cherubs - Eliza Marion (3 1/2 yrs) and Chase Isaac (almost 2). They are TONS of fun! They are both blonde and full of energy and enthusiasm for EVERYTHING! I will try to post some pix of them another time, but I need to figure out how to do that first! Meantime - short, cute, and blonde will have to suffice! It is especially fun to come home from work and have them run up to me with big hugs and smiles. "Daddy! Daddy!" just warms the heart after a stressful day.

Amy is very busy trying to keep up with those two. Since I'm away most of the day either at work, school, or church callings I'm not able to be of as much help as I'd like to be. Thankfully, I have a good wife who does a wonderful job of keeping our home together while I'm so busy with everything else!

Speaking of work, school, and callings -

I work for a company called Pii (Progressive Impressions Int'l) its a marketing company that developes lead generation, and customer retention marketing campaigns for alot of fortune 500 corporations. I'm in tech support (workstation, server, and network support) and enjoy it very much! Leah also works for Pii from home on a part-time, as needed basis. I've been with the company for 8 years.

When I'm not at work, I'm at school - in fact I just finished my last class today! All that is left is finals next week and I will have completed my Bachelors in Economics. Yeah!!!!!

When I'm not a work or school, then I'm generally doing something with the Stake Pres'y. I'm the Stake Executive Secretary which generally requires me to be at High Council meetings on Thursday evenings, and often traveling to various units around the stake on Sundays. I really enjoy working directly with the Pres'y. Despite the fact that I'm half their age, we have built a very comfortable friendship and we all enjoy the time we have to work together. They are good men and I get to learn so much from them. Of all the callings I've had - this has got to be my favorite by far! Just recently, we had Stake Conference which a general authority (Marlin K. Jensen) visited. When G.As visit we (the pres'y) usually have a meeting with him. These are the times when I particularly enjoy the opportunity to serve in the Stake Pres'y. It is extremely uplifting to be able to sit with a G.A. and be taught the gospel. I think I've had the opportunity to meet with 3 or 4 general authorities since being called to this position.

This year's Stake Conference ended on quite the unusual note. Within a minute or two of Elder Jensen beginning his talk, tornado sirens began to sound around town, the skys opened up and it heavily downpoored! The Stake President made a decision that we should seek shelter in the safer parts of the building until the weather cleared. In all my years in Illinois - this was a FIRST! Never had I seen a tornado warning end a church meeting early. Well, once the weather cleared up and it was determined that it was safe enough to resume, it was too late - our presiding authority had to be leaving to catch his plane. Its not too often that we have Stake Conferences with that much excitement! Unfortunately the general congregation was not able to hear from him, but, nevertheless, I was thankful that I'd been given the opportunity in meetings the day before.

Well, I think I'll close now, lest I ramble on further. I have to say though, it is really fun to see postings from various cousins. I hope that more of our family will get word of the blog and join in the fun! Pass it on! Hey - if MOM can do this ANYBODY can! : )

A la prochaine! (Yes. I served my mission in France)
Andy

5th Generation Corbett Girls

These cute little girls are Emma and Sadee Wright, daughters of Jared and Sarah (Taylor) Wright. Just to make sure you know who I am and how I fit into the Corbett family, I'll give you the scoop. I am from Joanne's branch. I am the oldest child of her oldest child. My husband and I live here in Gilbert, AZ. We have two daughters, Emma Kay will be 4 in July and Sadee Joanne will be 2 that same month. Jared works as a sales manager for a computer software company and serves as a couselor in the Elder Quorum Presidency. I get to be a stay at home mommy. On tuesdays, I teach a parent/toddler music class. It is fun, I get to sing and dance and play instruments and get paid for it. Along the same lines, I serve as the primary chorister. All week long I am preparing some kind of music lesson. Emma loves Sunbeams and is quite the social butterfly. I have a few moms that called and want to know what preschool Emma is going in so they can have their daughters in the same class. In jr primary we have to have opening exercises in the chapel. One of Emma's first sundays, she was asked to give the 1st article of faith. She had memorized it and very confidently without hesitation got up and recited it at the pulpit. Then a week ago, she was asked to give the opening prayer and she did the same thing. I don't know where she came from. Many of you don't know my checkered past, but I couldn't give a primary talk until I was 11 yrs old. Even then, I got down after giving my talk and bawled through the rest of primary. I guess I am in awe when I watch Emma do her thing. Sadee is our cuddle bug. She is so fun and loves nursery. She is kind of rough with her older sister, but Emma is very kind and patient through it all. Sadee loves to sing and wants so badly to dance as graceful as Emma does. I think I have covered everything. It would be fun to have some sort of reunion, so we can become reacquainted.

Happy Birthday to You!

It's mom's birthday today! Happy 58. You don't look a day over 35. We had a grand party last night, which mom basically threw for us! She's the best. We had the whole clan (at least those up here) over to her house, and serious fun was had by all. Since mom is determined to have at least a 3 day celebration for her special day, we started a day early, and tonight she went out with dad. It is so fun to read everyones blogs and find out what is going on in your lives. I read a posting on Scott and Erin's blog sight (posted by Erin) that I couldn't help but laughing about because it sounded so much like some of my mornings/days with little ones around.

So guess I should give an update on our family. In December Ben's company (Auto Owners Insurance) transferred us from Rockford, IL back to the branch in Peoria so we now live in East Peoria, IL. We like our new house and our new ward a lot. Ben is still working on training for his new job but one of the nicest things about it is he isn't gone overnight anymore and he likes it that when he is done at 4:30, he is done until he goes back the next day, his work doesn't come home with him. (In Rockford home was also his office.)

Erin(3yrs) and Clayton(7mos) are getting bigger everyday and we feel so blessed to have them. Erin now loves Sunbeams (initially she didn't want to go at all) and spends all of Sacrament meeting asking if it is time to go to class yet. It is amazing how much she remembers even though she does get stories mixed up sometimes. Last night she was telling us a story about how Nephi got swallowed by a whale. We tried to suggested that maybe it was Jonah that was swallowed but she insisted it was Nephi (previous to yesterday it was Jonah so not sure where Nephi came from). Erin is very happy to have a baby brother, the other day she said to me "Mama its so nice to have Clayton in our family isn't it?", which made me feel really good. Clayton is very active and into everything even though he can't sit, crawl or walk. Somehow he manages to roll everywhere and lately he has been doing some very good push-ups,he still manages to go backwards more than forwards. He loves his big sister and she doesn't have to do much to make him laugh. It is so fun to see them interact with each other.

As for me I have a full-time job taking care of the kiddies, the house and this year I am also trying a garden, now that we have a place for it. I also work part-time on an as needed basis for the same company that Andy works for. So I keep very busy most of the time, but I think I like being busy rather than not, so it works.
- Leah

Corbett Family News

Corbett Family News

I will send invites to Ben and Leah again. Mark and Mark E are on the first official Scout campout since Mark E. turned 12 (April 17). They are camping in Provo canyon and then biking 10 miles...or something like that.

I am left to my own devices (for a few minutes at least), so I decided to get on the computer...this was a great surprise! We are all doing relatively well--we are amazed that life is always so busy.

The kids are into Soccer and Taekwondo. Nathan professes to be a Taekwondo enthusiast, but during class he sits on my lap and refuses to participate. His very first soccer game is tomorrow. I am hoping he will actually play.

We hope everyone is healthy and happy.
7:50 PM

The Net is Widening!

So nice to see that Andy Goodwin was able to post a message! I'm trying to find out how everyone can have access to post on this site - it's still magic to me. Hopefully Andy G or Scott W can get us all involved.

By this time everyone should have received the list that Julie Goodwin put together. What a job! Thank you so much. I truly have such warm feelings when I think about the extended family that I have. We are so lucky!

There are a few individual spots you might like to check. Remember, some are way more advanced (technologically speaking) than others. But it's still fun to see what is going on. Just a warning, though - if you check out the Freiberg site, you're going to see Sean's gooey toe. It's lovely.

Scott and Erin: tuscan.blogspot.com
Lara and Sean: thefreibergs.blogspot.com
Melinda and Michael: melindapalmer.blogspot.com
Judy: yellowstonemanor.blogspot.com
Sarah and Jared: choosethewright.blogspot.com

Let us know if there are other family sites out there. I don't know how to "link" these yet. Again, I'm not that talented. But if anyone would like to help me? You should have my numer! We are all doing well. This blog is a great idea for keeping in touch. At 8:00pm MST on May 6th we should all eat a banana split in Granny's honor. How special to have Mary Jane's babies sealed on that day. We wish we could be there. It was very special when Olivia was sealed to Lara and Sean. Rick is adjusting to his new life as a church civilian. His golf game should be great this summer. Cathy is second counsellor in the Stake Primary and is a busy Grandma. Lara and Sean now have their own dental practice. They have 3 kids, Sommer who was just baptized, Olivia who is a very active 3 year old and sweet baby Erik who is 5.5months old now. Amy and Brad are in Cedar Hills Utah. Brad is in China right. Amy and her 4 kids are enjoying spring break. Catie is 10, Annie 6, Nathan 4 and sweet baby Sarah is 5.5 months old. Sarah is 12 hours older than Erik.
Scott and Erin stay busy with their 3 kids. Grace is 5 and in kindergarten, Matthew is an even more active 2 year old and sweet baby Hannah is 4.5 months old. Kerri and Cade are in Palm Springs this weekend for her business get away. They live in Denver. Cade is doing is podiatry residency and Kerri works for a computer company. Melinda works for Sean at the dental practice and Michael is in school. He's almost done for the summer. They just returned from a cruise in the caribbean. That's a brief run down. We look forward to hearing how you are all doing.

Everyone is Invited to Share

This is an awesome way to keep in touch and be aware of family news.
