Mothers Day 2006 In Calgary, Canada

On Sunday past the Calgary Melchin's celebrated mother's day at Rick & Cathy's place. In traditional style, Cathy prepared her own celebration dinner for everyone. After dinner at the Melchins we surprised Cathly with the hammock she's had her eye on.

Here's a photo of Melinda Palmer and (some of) the Melchin grandkids, taken just before dinner.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

I hope everyone is having a happy Mother's day! They passed out chocolate in Sacrament meeting, so I am happy!

First-- belated congratulations to Jane, Paul, and family! We wish we could've been there. Last Sunday Mark E. was ordained a deacon. Mom and Dad came up here for that, and that's why they weren't in Dallas.

Mark E. did a great job on his first week passing the sacrament. The first person he passed it to was his dad, and that was a really nice experience.

We completely failed to eat banana splits on Granny's birthday. I have tried to compensate by eating a lot of ice cream this week. I also decided to treat my kids to a batch of Scotcheroos. I mixed everything together, pressed it into the pan, handed out a couple of un-frosted pieces to my kids and neighbor kids, then poured on the chocolate. I set the pan on the counter. 15 minutes later a neighbor kid came over, stood on his tip-toes, put his little face over the pan, and started coughing. I had to toss the entire thing into the trash. Bummer!

Mark and Co. have been trying to inventory the entire warehouse. We haven't seen much of him at all during the past week. He went to work at 5:00 a.m. yesterday (Saturday) and came home at 4:30 a.m. today. He slept for about 3 hours and then successfully made it through Sacrament meeting up on the stand without falling asleep! I am hoping that he is asleep right now.

I may try to figure out how to put a picture on here! If I am successful, it is a picture of my kids at Disney World in October. They are (l-r): Matthew, Nathan, Drew, and Mark.

Pioneer Days

Our ward reenacted the meeting where the Relief Society was first created. I was asked to play Elizabeth Ann Whitney, who was Emma Smith's 1st counselor. I was disappointed that Mary Fielding Smith wasn't one of the parts to choose from. Here is a picture of my mom and I that night. The bucket I am holding is Brigham Young's bucket.

Would You Like to "Post"?

I've tried to send invitation emails to everyone on the list, but if I missed you, or if there is more than one email in the family, or if you didn't recognize the first invite as something you needed to respond to, please let me know via email, of course. During the week: judy.taylor@wellsfargo.com
On the weekend: judy@freelancecomputers.com

Everyone would love to hear from you - once again, no conference talks necessary. But if you feel so inclined, this is your chance. Is your life interesting? Absolutely!!! Especially to your relatives. How many opportunities will you have to actually experience the pain and horror of having a casserole dish fall on your toe? Well, thanks to Sean and Lara and their blogging abilities we now know how to best pack the fridge so that dish won't fall out.

Come out, come out wherever you are...

Celebrating Granny's 100th Birthday

Here's a photo of the Cathy and Rick Melchin clan having a banana split at Dairy Queen to celebrate what would have been Marion Corbett's 100th birthday. I didn't ever meet Granny, but it was nice to have an ice cream in her honor.

Pictured (left to right): Matthew Wolff, Erin Wolff (holding Hannah Wolff), Cathy Melchin, Melinda Palmer, Micheal Palmer (Grace Wolff sitting on lap), Rick Melchin (Erik Freiberg on lap), Sommer Freiberg, Lara Frieberg, Sean Freiberg, and Olivia Freiberg (seated on horse).

Summary of Dallas

First of all, I apologize for not being able to get all the pictures on in one post. But the advantage may be that if there are questions about any of them, you can comment in the smaller group of photos. I really wanted to get them out quickly. So enjoy them. I will get to all the information tomorrow. I just got home this evening. It was really fun to see the cousins - I wish you all could have been there! There wasn't much time, but it was worth it! Have fun.

Melchin Family Slideshow

I made a slideshow for my parents for Christmas just recently. It's one that starts from each of them as babies, right up until the birth of their most recent grandchild, Hannah. They really enjoyed it so I thought I would post it so that if you wanted to take a look you could. It's about 20 minutes long so give yourself some time. Enjoy. This pretty much sums up the Melchin Clan.

5th Generation Corbett Girls

These cute little girls are Emma and Sadee Wright, daughters of Jared and Sarah (Taylor) Wright. Sarah is the daughter of Jeffrey C Taylor, who is the son of Joanne C Taylor, who is the daughter of Don and Marion Corbett. We think they are just about the cutest thing around! It only took me an hour and a half to figure out how to scan this picture and then get it to the blog, so you better enjoy it!

The Wright Branch

Hello all you long lost Corbett cousins!!! Just to make sure you know who I am and how I fit into the Corbett family, I'll give you the scoop. I am from Joanne's branch. I am the oldest child of her oldest child. My husband and I live here in Gilbert, AZ. We have two daughters, Emma Kay will be 4 in July and Sadee Joanne will be 2 that same month. Jared works as a sales manager for a computer software company and serves as a couselor in the Elder Quorum Presidency. I get to be a stay at home mommy. On tuesdays, I teach a parent/toddler music class. It is fun, I get to sing and dance and play instruments and get paid for it. Along the same lines, I serve as the primary chorister. All week long I am preparing some kind of music lesson. Emma loves Sunbeams and is quite the social butterfly. I have a few moms that called and want to know what preschool Emma is going in so they can have their daughters in the same class. In jr primary we have to have opening exercises in the chapel. One of Emma's first sundays, she was asked to give the 1st article of faith. She had memorized it and very confidently without hesitation got up and recited it at the pulpit. Then a week ago, she was asked to give the opening prayer and she did the same thing. I don't know where she came from. Many of you don't know my checkered past, but I couldn't give a primary talk until I was 11 yrs old. Even then, I got down after giving my talk and bawled through the rest of primary. I guess I am in awe when I watch Emma do her thing. Sadee is our cuddle bug. She is so fun and loves nursery. She is kind of rough with her older sister, but Emma is very kind and patient through it all. Sadee loves to sing and wants so badly to dance as graceful as Emma does. I think I have covered everything. It would be fun to have some sort of reunion, so we can become reacquainted.

Happy Birthday to You!

myspace

It's mom's birthday today! Happy 58. You don't look a day over 35. We had a grand party last night, which mom basically threw for us! She's the best. We had the whole clan (at least those up here) over to her house, and serious fun was had by all. Since mom is determined to have at least a 3 day celebration for her special day, we started a day early, and tonight she went out with dad. I'm sure she'll drum up another celebration plan before the week is up!

Mom made sure that the kids had tons of fun. They had a scavenger hunt for treatbags, played freeze dance, and the hightlight of the night was the chicken dance! She's a wonderful Mimi, and her grandkids love her dearly! We all do!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!
